January is National Slave and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

We're starting the New Year with a new cause: helping prevent human trafficking.

You might be thinking, "This stuff doesn't really happen" or, “that doesn't happen here” but there are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today and between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. each year .

According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80% are female and 1/2 of them are children.


The average age a teen enters the sex trade in the U.S. is 12-14 years old. Many victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children.

There are people in this world that need help and you can make a difference.

This month, we urge you to learn how to recognize signs of human trafficking and what to do when you see something.

The Malouf Foundation’s OnWatch training is designed to train and educate people to recognize the signs of human trafficking—and to know how to respond when they see something. There are several videos and multiple choice questions and it takes about 30 minutes to complete.
