Helichrysum Essential Oil + DMSO: Uses and Benefits

Also known as the "Everlasting Flower", Helichrysum has been historically used for things like helping relieve fevers, healing wounds, relieving coughs, and more.

Helichrysum is commonly used for medicinal purposes because of it’s antibacterial, antifungal, analgesic (pain-relieving), antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Cosmetically, Helichrysum is known to help skin stay moisturized, soft, and hydrated.

“Helichrysum oil is comprised of a chemical group called esters , which are generally known to be calming, relaxing, and to have balancing effects on mood. Esters can also help reduce the appearance of blemishes when applied topically.”

Helichrysum’s anti-inflammatory properties have been established in several experimental studies. This is due to several mechanisms of the oil such as inflammatory enzyme inhibition, free radical scavenging, and its corticoid-like effects.

“Researchers from the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Naples in Italy also found that due to ethanolic compounds present in the extract of helichrysum flowers, it elicits antispasmodic actions inside of an inflamed digestive system, helping reduce the gut from swelling, cramping and digestive pain.”

Helichrysum essential oil may also help with:

  • Acne
  • Colds
  • Cough
  • Skin inflammation
  • Wound healing
  • Constipation
  • Indigestion and acid reflux
  • Liver diseases
  • Gallbladder disorders
  • Inflammation of the muscles and joints
  • Infections
  • Candida
  • Insomnia
  • Stomachaches
  • Bloating

Why Infuse Helichrysum with DMSO?

DMSO by itself is known for both it's pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also able to easily pass through the skin carrying other things (like essential oils) with it- therefore enhancing the absorption of the essential oil (like Helichrysum!).

Put DMSO and Helichrysum together...well, it's no wonder this is a customer favorite!
